Loft conversion in Surrey - Q&A Part 1

We thought we would ask some of our former customers to find out the trials and trivulations of Loft conversion .

Q1:  What was the reason behind you deciding to Convert your Loft?

Mark & Shauna (East Grinstead): We have been married for four years and love the area we live in it has everything we need. When discussing starting a family, we quickly realised that our home just was'nt big enough to accomodate the extra space we would need for raising a family. The next step up on the property ladder would have increased our mortgage at a time when our income would have been reduced. So a loft conversion was the ideal solution.

Shelagh and Frank (Guidlford): When Frank was made redundant he decided that he would start his own business and needed office space from which to run his consultancy firm. Converting the loft seemed the perfect solution. It provided us with a huge ensuite master bedroom allowing Frank to convert our old bedroom into his office.

Q2: What was the process you went through to choose your loft conversion company?

Mark & Shauna (East Grinstead): We called five companies, and got quotes from three of them. It was a mixed bag of quotations really. The first Company was a bit of a nightmare. they did'nt seem interested in what our needs were. The second was better but when we started talking about cost they wanted us to give an answer straight away to get a discount. When Lingfield lofts arrived to provide us with a quote it was more like an informal chat about the process and possibilities. What we should expect, I mean how long it would take and the planning regualtions etc. They even gave us a few suggestions about possibilities we had not considered and after measuring up and checking the loft & taking pictures both inside and out they left. When we got all the quotes back, we choose Lingfield Lofts quote because they had laid it out nicely and given us a couple of additional prices for the extras we had discussed. we felt really relaxed about the whole process & comfortable with the company.

Shelagh and Frank (Guidlford): We got a couple of quotations for our Loft conversion. However Lingfield Lofts came recommended to us because some friends of ours had their loft converted the previous year, and we had a good look at their loft and loved it. The Quotation they provided was in the middle of the other two quotes. To tell you the truth it was seeing the quality of our friends finished loft conversion that really sold us on using them. It was exellent!
